About Morgan Fry
A native of Orange County, California, Morgan has made his living primarily as a reed player for 20 years, most recently including travelling the world as Muscal Director for Cunard Line on Ocean Liners including the Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2. "It wasn't until I came across an old Link that had been worked on by Jon Van Wie that I realized how sub-standard the equipment we had all had been playing on really was, and how much better it could be -- a large chambered mouthpiece doesn't have to be stuffy, and you don't need a lot of baffle to project. I became obsessed with figuring out what it takes to make a mouthpiece really sing. After a few years I suddenly got good at it." Within 2 months of moving to England, his mouthpieces were being played every night in several West End shows, on BBC television and in major recording studios like Abbey Road.
Morgan's overriding goal is to make mouthpieces that not just play great, but have an almost vocal, singing quality to the sound. " None of us became musicians for the money, we do it because we feel compelled to, for the pure joy of it. As a player I want my equipment to be comfortable as a second skin, to let me express myself in a way that reaches my audience -- all without thinking about it, it needs to be able to just happen. With these mouthpieces, I think I have achieved that."
